New dates coming soon
Portugal's coastline is beautifully dynamic; for the photographer it offers amazing locations from the ocean to the city.
Join Paulo Silva and myself for 5 days whilst we explore Portugal's hidden gems!
Email us to be added to the 2020 dates....
We have 5 days to explore the North-West region of Portugal together. Both Porto and Aveiro are part of Portugals stunning less discovered locations which have so many photography opportunities for us. Based centrally, we keep the driving to a minimum and so the photography is our main focus. Early morning sunrises see the beautiful colours across the lagoons of Ria de Aveiro amplified with the single colourful boats, jetties and pontoons. We can also choose to explore the coastlines of the area or the cityscapes, all these locations are within easy reach of our base for the trip.
With the expert knowledge of Paulo to hand we have Aveiro and Porto locations to capture and many 'hidden' locations in-between. We will mix the trip up by exploring both ocean and lagoon locations, with chapels on the beach, lighthouses, boats, fishing towns and of course the speciality of the Pastel de nata!! (sweet egg custard tarts!) or for those who enjoy Port - well we will be visiting the home town of Porto, with its colourful houses and inspiring bridges and of course the Porto wine!
This is an exceptional opportunity i've secured to join up with local photographer Paulo Silva in his home region of Porto & Aveiro where we will explore some of Portugal's 'hidden' locations. Paulo's home is only a few miles away from our locations, giving us great opportunities to explore this area with a 'local' who knows the locations incredibly well. Paulo has become one of Portugal´s finest and most sought-after photographers with a recognisable style, a keen eye to get it right in camera whilst on location and its been a real privilege to get to know him and plan this tour together!
After sunrise each day we will head back to the hotel for a well earned breakfast, a short break and back out to explore. Late afternoon light allows the filters to come alive and we can explore the surrounding beautiful beaches with various exposures to capture that sweeping tide shot or chapel on the beach. After sunset we head back the hotel for evening dinner and drinks with optional processing or questions from the days adventures.
We will aim to head out for every sunrise and sunset but the hotel offers wonderful spa facilities so if you dont feel you can make a session please enjoy these or catch up on some sleep instead, it is your holiday after-all!

What does fitness level 'Easy' mean?
You need to be capable of walking for a few minutes, across beaches and sand dunes, along footpaths and up moderate inclines. There will be no strenuous activity but it is advised that you take walks before the trips so you can cope with the days of photography.
Are you shooting dawn and sunsets?
Yes, we will be making the most of the times of good light, but we will be active all throughout the day from early morning until sunset. Sunrise isnt too early at this time of the year with sunsets before dinner which keep the days shorter than in the summer. The hotel offers an excellent spa and fitness suite so if you prefer a lie in one morning and a swim instead then this is also possible.
Ensure you bring good quality footwear. Walking boots or walking shoes should suffice, but bring a pair of wellingtons as we will be around the waters edge for most of this trip. Ensure a hat and gloves are part of your wardrobe as early mornings can see significant drops in temperature. Midge repellent is also recommended.
An array of focal lengths will always benefit the photographer. A wide angle lens (16-35), medium zoom (24-70) and a longer zoom (70-300) will be ideal to cover most compositional eventualities. The most used will be the 24-70 as wide angle doesn't always translate, so make sure this focal length is covered. Filters will be used, if you dont own any this is not a problem as we will have spares that we can bring for everyone. A tripod is also essential along with a remote for longer exposures. See full notes nearer to the time.
Do I need a computer?
Although not essential, its a great idea to bring a laptop computer with you so you can discuss imagery with Paulo and myself and others in the group.
It really is a great learning experience, so I highly recommend bringing a laptop to learn and for personal entertainment.
What computer support do you give?
I make a point of tutoring all my clients on digital photography to help complete the learning process. we will try and use the time during the day or early evening to cover some processing. It really helps to have a computer session when tiredness takes hold, or inclement weather persists
Any other questions please ask!
