Round The Island Race

The Isle of Wight 30th May 2020

Join me for another exciting day on the Isle of Wight, for the annual Round the Island Race - 30th May 2020 The largest race of its kind with around 16,000 professional and amateur sailors. We are very lucky to have secured private ribs for the largest and most spectacular sailing event, which involves the race to circumnavigation the island - with over 1,500 boats out on the water for us to photograph.

We will have the best seats in the house on our rib with its own skipper, to photograph the boats as they come past the most photogenic view of the Isle of Wight - The Needles. With these colourful boats passing the white cliffs and lighthouse we can position the rib in as many positions as possible, to allow everyone plenty of opportunity to photograph the stunning boats, the amazing views around us, and of course the crew operating the boats all of which make for some amazing photographs.

We will be out on the water for as much as possible and we have sole use of the ribs, our skippers will be bringing us ashore for brunch/lunch and at any times when we need to rest. We may even see something we want to photograph from shore, as we travel around this beautiful little island.

This coming event in 2020 sees us adding a unique spin on the day, after the time spent on water our skipper will bring us ashore at Yarmouth where we are met by taxis to take us to the Needles headland and we can spend some time 'above' the lighthouse on shore capturing more images but from another beautiful viewpoint.  We then head back to Yarmouth to meet the skipper and get taken back across the Solent to Lymington.

There will be oilskins on board for everyone, camera equipment will need waterproof covers, and please bring plenty of cloths to keep your lenses clean! I'm used to being on the water with my camera, as I own a fishing boat here in Cornwall - and I am regularly taking clients out on this, as well as photographing on the water for large events such as the JClass yachts and the Tall ships. This gives me plenty of experience for what you will need to enjoy the day - and of course I'll be on the rib with you, to ensure you all get some fantastic shots!

On The Day:

Our day will begin at Lymington Harbour (times to be confirmed shortly as we are waiting on the tide times but in the past we've had starts as early as 06.30am on the water, so meeting will be 05.00am!) as soon as i know i will inform you.  We will head out and across into the waters of the Isle of Wight and photograph the boats around the area of Yarmouth, and the iconic Needles.  We will make a stop for lunch and breaks around Yarmouth before heading towards Cowes to see the yachts over the finish line.  The workshop will conclude mid afternoon. Lunch will also be included and taken at one of the stopping locations of either Yarmouth or Cowes.

This workshop has been tailored to suit a maximum of 4 clients, ensuring everyone gets a good view onboard the rib allowing for space.
