Trip To The Middle Of The Atlantic!

carlaregler

Ive always had this longing to get to St Kilda, the tiny UNESCO archipelago of islands 64 kilometres WNW of North Uist. After many failed attempts mainly due to the unpredictable weather we face here in the Outer Hebrides and also covid restrictions during 2020 i finally made it in 2021! Living on South Uist meant there's only one boat company that i wanted to travel with and thats Uist Sea Tours.

Its not the quickest journey out or back, some 2 hrs 45 mins each way - luckily i don't get travel sick! We headed out from Berneray on a beautiful calm morning.

We left behind the last of the land masses of North Uist, a calm ocean with occasional seabirds, sadly no marine wildlife on the journey out.

I was unsure what to expect, i'd read plenty about the islands and seen many a picture but what really struck me as we got closer was the towering sea cliffs that descended out of the hazy ocean mist and nothing else around!

Its definitely a journey hard to explain, but when you see those cliffs appear thats the moment you realise how special St Kilda is and that there is nothing else like it.
